Painting Crew Sees RED
There’s no doubt about it. It was that kind of weekend. The
crew who turned out to help the Larsmont Community Club paint new
siding for the Little Red Schoolhouse saw a lot of red. And white, for
that matter.
Saturday, August 26, 2006, and Sunday, August 27, were two
perfect days for painting. For four easy hours each day, Larsmont CC
members slapped paint, donated by Valspar, on siding, donated by
Louisiana Pacific, to help renovate the siding for the Schoolhouse.
Later this fall the painted boards will replace the old siding on two
sides of the Schoolhouse. Next year, two additional sides of the
building will be addressed.
Led by president Bill Tranah, on Saturday the merry band of
painters was comprised of David and Kathy Falk, Bill Miller, Marlys
Wisch, Cindy and Paul Hayden and Bev Erickson, who provided lunch for
the hearty crowd. Other painters included Margaret Glass, Helen Tranah and John Quam.
Tranah says that the community owes a great deal of
thanks to Louisiana Pacific and Valspar for the donation of materials.
Through donated time and materials, the Schoolhouse is one of the few
one-room schoolhouses in the state that is still in good enough
condition to be used for schooling. Several times each year, the
building is used by regional teachers to conduct class in the old
tradition, in addition to its use as a polling place and for community
gatherings. Over the past few years a tremendous amount of work
has been done to repair and maintain the building’s character and
charm.

Annual Meeting - 2006
The annual meeting of the Larsmont Community Club was held
on Monday, May 15, 2006, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Little Red Schoolhouse.
Among the business of the meeting: a day and time was set
for the annual picnic, Monday, August 28, 2006, from 5-7 p.m. at the
Schoolhouse; a painting party was set for Friday through Sunday, August 25 through 27 to begin
at 10 a.m., with paint being provided and folks encouraged to bring
their own painting materials.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to inform members
that if they hold functions and events at the Schoolhouse that generate
money, such as a rummage sale, there will be a request for a 5-10%
donation of their profits. The monies will go into the Building Fund, a
fund that is used to continue the ongoing restoration of the
Schoolhouse.
A suggestion was made at the meeting to ask LCC members to
donate a minimum of $25 toward the Building Fund. A donation of any
amount will be accepted, but if someone donates $100 or more, as a way
of thanks there will be a plaque made with their name on it that will
be placed in the Schoolhouse.
Any resident can be a member of the
Larsmont Community Club with an annual payment of $10 in dues. Paid
dues allows one free use of the Schoolhouse by the member. Dues and any
donations for the Building Fund should be sent to LCC secretary, Marlys
Wisch, 489 Swanson Rd., Larsmont, MN 55616.
The complete unapproved minutes from the meeting are available here. The 2007 meeting will be held May 10, 2007, at 7 p.m.
